44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Having laid the foundation for a Biblical view of the local New Testament Church with the first two messages in the “I LOVE MY CHURCH” series, we move now to the intensely practical side.
This message crystalizes three values that run contrary to the spirit of our age. Institutional commitment is out of style. So is respect for authority. And things like loyalty and faithfulness, well, forget about it. But the Bible teaches us that commitment, respect, and faithfulness are to be the marks of God’s people and His church before a watching world.
So why is it that so many people seem to bounce from church to church, or in and out of church? I think a major reason is that they’ve never learned that when there are challenges they must be worked through. Instead some just run away—carrying cumulative baggage from one “bad” experience to another.
In reality, their “bad” experience is just the wear and tear of living life with other people. Mature people get that and get over stuff. Immature people, not so much.
How many people do I know who have left a church for non-Biblical reasons (read: preference, personality, or perceived offense)?
Are there any things that I need to resolve with anyone in the church?
How often have I let the negative attitudes of others infect me?
