If you woke up tomorrow surrounded by only the things you thanked God for today, how would that look? Some of us would find ourselves in a pretty bleak and barren landscape.

Every time we fail to say thank you, every time we don’t respond to God’s blessings in our life with gratitude, we’ve responded with pride. “I deserve this. I work hard; I’ve earned the good things in my life.” That’s the exact opposite of gratitude - it’s entitlement.

James 1:17 reminds us that “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” Every good thing in your life is a gift – not a reward. Paul said it best in Philippians 4:11 – “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation.”

We must be intentional. For every blessing that God gives us, we must choose to respond with praise. When life is going well, when life is going down the drain; when everything is falling into place, when everything is falling apart CHOOSE PRAISE.

Here’s my challenge to you: tomorrow morning, before your feet hit the floor, before that first cup of coffee in the morning, before you check your phone, make a list of FIVE things you are thankful for. Repeat every morning for the next week.

Because, as Pastor Mike taught us - “The grateful life is a great-full life.”
