Read: II Timothy 2:1-4
As we marked the 100 th anniversary of VETERANS DAY, we looked at the idea of the soldier as a
Biblical metaphor. It’s used frequently in scripture and is a regular reminder that life and
ministry is not all “fun and games” but contains more than a little conflict. And while we should
never go out of our way to create conflict, we must be vigilant and courageous when it comes
THE GOOD SOLDIER OF JESUS CHRIST MUST BE:
Spiritually Strong—No Matter What. And this strength does not come from “within” but rather
Brave Under Pressure—there will always be a measure of suffering and hardship. We’ll never
enjoy this, but we must ENDURE it.
Focused On the Mission—and that mission is the work of the Kingdom of God and winning
people to Jesus Christ.
Discerning About the Enemy—we are not fighting people, but dark spiritual forces led by the
A Weapons Expert—and the primary weapon is the WORD OF GOD.
Concerned with Pleasing the Lord—and the way to please God is FAITH.
