Sunday, December 10th, 2017: "BE BRILLIANT" • Pastor David R. Stokes
Last week, I ended the first message in this new series (“BRILLIANT”) with a reference to the “warm up” for Jesus—that unique and charismatic prophet known as John the Baptizer or John the Baptist. He knew his role. He knew his place. And, most important of all, he knew JESUS—the true light. He was a man with a mission, one simple purpose—to be a witness about Jesus. He was the great “voice crying in the wilderness.” (see Isaiah 40:3-8)
John never started a movement. He never built a church. He never wrote a book. He never did anything other than tell the truth about Jesus. He shined his light in order to shift attention to the ultimate light.
The guy was BRILLIANT.
And we can be brilliant just like John. You see, we have light to shine. It must be received, and it is reflective in nature, but it is light nonetheless. We are commanded by Jesus to let this light shine. When I was a little kid, we used to sing:
This little light of mine,
I’m gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, let it shine.
But that should be more than a “kid’s” song—it should be a grown-up pursuit. What does this mean? I think it speaks of at least three things that our lives should be known for:
THE GREAT COMMISSION
That’s how to BE BRILLIANT.
- What are some examples of GOOD WORKS?
- How does our GODLY LIVING impact the world around us?
- What is THE GREAT COMMISSION?
