DEVOTIONAL:

Expectation Church is in transition. Though God has blessed us in many ways, it may be tempting to

become complacent and fall into the trap of insecurity about the future or fear of what’s next. If we

aren’t careful, it’s a time when we can be tempted to take our eyes off the promise and focus on what

we perceive to be a problem. It’s also a time that the devil can slither in and make this political, or a time

to push personal agendas.

Instead, I challenge you to embrace Carpenter’s words, spoken by Johnson, all those years ago - “I will

do my best. That is all I can do. I ask God’s help and yours.” Unlike Johnson, our mission isn’t earthly –

it’s supernatural. Our purpose and vision are so much higher than politics or personal agendas.

EXPECTATION CHURCH EXISTS SO THAT PEOPLE FAR FROM GOD WILL EXPERIENCE FAITH IN CHRIST.

This is not the time to allow the devil to distract us from all that lies ahead. Do your best – it’s all God

asks you to do. With God’s help and the support of one another, our future is as bright as the promises

of God.

“’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you,

plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

REFLECTION:

The church = people = individuals. Are YOU winning?

In times of transition:

  • Some will make it political.

  • Some will speak out of emotion.

  • Staying in a discouraged, defeated or depressed state over time will turn into blame and

victimization. Victimization will keep you in a cycle that will stall growth and healing.

  • Some will return to church because the previous pastor is gone and they may have

    divisive and ulterior motives.

  • Some will compare the next guy to the former.

  • Some are seeking God earnestly.

  • Some know this is a time God is speaking to them.

  • Some God will call to do more for His kingdom.

How do we go forward?

  • Take courage and go boldly into the future. Joshua 1:6-9 (NIV)

  • Praise and worship the Lord to see the walls come down! Battle of Jericho – Joshua 6

    (NIV)

  • Confront the sin that keeps you in defeat. Battle of Ai - Joshua 8 (NIV)

  • Pray for the sun to stand still. Five kings defeated – Joshua 10 (NIV)

  • Be a role model and lead your family. Joshua 24:15 (NASB)

  • Conquer the next city/take the next step. Joshua
